Sharing what you should be eating next...

Each week, starting in September 2021, I'll share the thing or things I've been eating and drinking that - if you love food - I think are worth your time and attention. Details will be in the podcast under the title "The Next Delicious Thing", you can sign up below to receive the weekly list by email so you hear first and don't miss out.

What you'll find here:

From March 2018 - March 2019 almost every Sunday I sent an email sharing the five most interesting things I'd tasted that week. I've uploaded all of those original emails here. Use the search function in the top right if you want to see if I've mentioned any companies you know!

The posts and upcoming podcast are heavily inclusive of chocolate, all dessert items, snacking, baked goods, vegetarian and plant-based. Items could be things I've bought, things I've been sent or recipes I've made at home. Any items received complimentary are disclosed as such, but all opinions are my own and most of what I share are items I've purchased myself.

The most recent DELICIOUS things I've eaten in London - 28th Feb 2019
I'm in Rome! It was a last minute trip because I never feel like I've seen enough of Europe. Carpe diem, right?! :-D (Especially if we might not be in Europe soon... :-O )I haven't ever properly been to Rome so if you have any recommendations please reply to let me know! I've hit up a few of the recommendations I've received so far and am currently full of pizza, pasta and tiramisu and very happy.

Valentine's Gift Suggestions - February 2019
I know, I know, Valentine's Day is such a commercial ruse. Having said that, I like presents and attention and I think most of us do, so I'll take any excuse. :-D And by any excuse I mean buying them for myself too, or for my friends. An outcome of more love and thoughtfulness can never be a bad thing.

Sweet & Savoury Things I've Tried in London Recently - 3 Feb 2019
It sure is cold in London. I've been having at least one hot chocolate a day. It is some compensation for the amount of time it takes to get dressed in seven layers and still find myself cold. My two favourite hot chocolates so far have been at Rococo Chocolates (it's a blend which includes Grenadian Chocolate) and Maitre Choux, who use Valrhona and have just opened their third boutique on the Kings Road in Chelsea.

5 Things I Ate This Week - a return from surgery - Sunday 16th December 2018
A four-week absence! I'm still here...So much for spending my birthday at an event giving two talks about chocolate. I spent it in hospital in a ward of strangers who didn't know it was my birthday. My husband brought me a brownie with a candle though. :-) On the Thursday after my last email we drove to A&E because I was in pretty excruciating pain. I ended up having emergency surgery that evening and spending five nights in hospital, including my birthday (no chocolate talks after all!) and the Sunday and Monday when I normally send these. The rest of the following week I spent entirely at home and wasn’t up to doing or eating much. But I'm all better now and here are the highlights from just this past week:

The Best 6 Things I Ate This Week - Sunday 28th October 2018 - London & Stockbridge
I promised I'd tell you about the special tour last Monday: it was a proposal! A private tour that ended with me presenting bars from Le Jeune Chocolatiers that had been arranged with Jamie. The words on them implied a proposal and as she looked up he had a ring box out. It was so touching and such an honour to be involved.

5 Things I Ate This Week - Sunday 21st October 2018
I hope you've had a great week? As I write this I'm eating still-warm, homemade banana bread. The first thing I've baked in the new oven. It may or may not be my fourth slice. :-) Maybe it wasn't a bad thing that I haven't had an oven for three years...

5 Best Foods I Ate This Week - Sunday 30th September 2018
I can't believe I've been doing this for half a year. Thanks for reading. :-) Short one tonight as I have guests staying! 1. Auction Against Hunger was a brilliant night and, of course, the most delicious thing was Rav's burnt caramel ice cream topped with Pump Street Chocolate magic and homemage daim bar. ;-) I also really loved Lyle's onion fritters.

5 Best Foods I Ate This Week - Sunday 23rd September 2018
I took my mum back to the airport yesterday and said goodbye to my brothers earlier in the week. It's going to be strange being back to having none of them around. There are still some tickets to Auction Against Hunger this Tuesday evening. I'll be hosting a table with Ravneet Gill and we'll be serving up salted burnt caramel soft serve with delicious Pump Street Chocolate toppings. I tried it fresh from the machine on Wednesday night and it is INCREDIBLE.

5 Best Foods I Ate This Week - Sunday 8th September 2018 + highlights from the Speciality Fine Food Fair and more
The weekend slid away. Some of my family arrived last night so I spent time with them then instead of sending this email out. I figured you'd be fine with that. :-) 1. Starting in reverse: I went to check out Eat Genesis, a new plant based fast food place. There are so many things on the menu and of those we tried some were definitely better than others. The warm brownie was totally gorgeous though. I'd have the papaya salad and the panko avocado taco again and I'm going to go back to try the Malaysian noodle salad and the laksa.

5 Best Foods I Ate This Week - Sunday 2nd September 2018
I hope you've had a good week? As well as my usual overload of eating I've been making lots of decisions on the kitchen. It was due to be finished by now but it looks like it'll the end of September instead. The builders are off the next two weeks so there's that, but we're also waiting on some windows and worktops and I still haven't finalised the oven... there's a 110cm gap waiting for a range though! 5 Best Foods I Ate This Week - Sunday 19th August 2018 - afternoon tea recommendations
What a week. It’s the end of Afternoon Tea Week and I made it to another three this week! The number one most delicious thing I tried this week was a hand-painted wild strawberry macaron with a lime mousseline that was part of the Chelsea Physic Garden-inspired tea at the Four Seasons on Park Lane. It was exquisite. The chocolate tart was divine too and everything else was really impressive. I was a guest of Duyku and Jing Tea who have launched wonderful new fruit teas. Our little local, under-the-arches café Tromso make a Welsh Rarebit toastie which is so deliciously comforting we’ve had it twice this weekend. It’s made with The Bread Station sourdough. In E7 it's probably a little out of the way for most people but it's very cute and I like spreading the word about owner-operated businesses.

5 Best Foods I Ate This Week - Sunday 12th August 2018 - a coffee shop in the Lake District + London sweet things
It's been a bittersweet week. We went to the Lake District for my husband's granny's funeral. She was 93, at least. It was nice to see Sam's family and especially nice for me that we could pick up my mum from the airport on the way and stop to leave her with my aunt and spend a few hours with them both there and on the way back.

I was out for dinner at the Sanderson Hotel last night and got in late so decided to leave this until this morning. I was going to send it before I went for dinner but I thought maybe something from last night would push something from this list. It didn't. 5 Best Foods I Ate This Week - Sunday 29th July 2018 - samosas, curry + a cookie
The ibuprofen hasn’t kicked in and my ear is aching like when you descend on a plane with a cold and you think your head might explode. Unfortunately three days where I’ve led four tours. But at least it’s not contagious so the show could go on! Back to the doctor tomorrow…

5 Foods I Ate This Week - Sunday 8th July 2018
I spent 12.30pm to 8pm today at the local tennis club watching my husband win both of his matches - men's singles and doubles! He's a happy man. I always have chocolate with me but today I should have left it behind - it totally melted! I've had a spectacular week in this gorgeous sunshine hosting six tours and two chocolate and cognac pairing sessions. You really want to come next time. We tried three Frapin cognacs ranging from £45 to £120 a bottle! They were incredible and I was never really fussed about cognac before.

Late again! Happy Monday to you! I was going to send this before I left for a private chocolate tour today but I had to tell the builder where I wanted the lights to go, which meant deciding where I wanted the lights to go! :-) From last week's "research", Bake for Syria launch and full day pastry tour, here are the best things I tasted:

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 24th June 2018 - including the best pasta I've had in ages
Yesterday I led a Chelsea Sweet Treats Adventure and went straight to a supperclub which I got home from after midnight (more on this below). Sorry for being a little late! 1. On Monday I went to the soft launch of Bancone (opening day, 50% off food) near Trafalgar Square and ate the best pasta I’ve had in ages. The Sussex ricotta ravioli with broad beans, peas and asparagus was INCREDIBLE. It was a bargain at half price but totally worth the full price.

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 17th June 2018 - Taste of London highlights
When you visit Taste Of London twice, it's hard to narrow down just five top things consumed in one week. I generally find food tastes better away from Taste of London. Not that it doesn't taste good, but I don't experience in quite the same way as the same food in the restaurant or at home. It's even true of things I start eating there and finish at home (I almost always travel with tuppaware!).

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 10th June
On Friday my social media feeds were full of Anthony Bourdain. A reminder that you never really know what's going on for people. One of the most poignant quotes that came up was not the food related ones, but this: "As you move through life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return life - and travel - leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks - on your body or on your heart - are beautiful. Often though, they hurt." I hope that you and yours are all ok.

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 3rd June - pastries and new London restaurants
1. Top of my mind is the brunch I had today at Lyle's London - a special one-off event initiated by their incredible pastry chef Anna Higham to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. The two pastries we started with - a cherry blossom danish and a chocolate (using Pump Street chocolate) morning bun were so wonderful I wish I could eat them every day. You usually can

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 27th May 2018
1. Delamina's menu was much the same as its sister restaurant Strut & Cluck. I didn't leave space for dessert, sadly, but my favourite dish was Grilled Courgettes two ways with crispy onions, pine kernels and labneh drizzle. If everyone could make vegetables taste this good we'd have better luck at reducing people's meat intake.

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 20th May 2018 - Highlights from Bake for Syria and some chocolate treats
1. I went to the Bake for Syria charity evening, as promised, and stuffed myself with an assortment of delicious carbs. The highlight was definitely the version of pizzette made by Johnnie Collins from The Store Kitchens with pickled grapes, walnuts, nectarines, herbs and cheese on a rye base (manoushi) that managed to be both crispy and chewy and so tasty.

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 13th May 2018 - Grenada, Edd Kimber's Brunch and The Balance Festival
It's 9am on Monday and I'm already munching on Pump Street Bakery's 64% Madagascan chocolate with the tiniest hint sea salt and crunchy pieces of their dehydrated rye sourdough. It's been a hectic few days. This bar is amazing. I picked it up at the Craft Chocolate takeover by Cocoa Runners at Kings Cross over the weekend. I'll be visiting them mid-week towards the end of June. Should I raffle off a place to join me?

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 6th May 2018 - London and Spain
On the road again! I'm writing to you from a quaint hotel in Andalucia. I did a lot of clearing of the freezer this week before we left. Then but ended up making more soup and curry to put back into it (in its new home in our lounge) because we'll have no hob for four months. I went out more often than I planned, too.A chocolatey week...

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 29th April - London - including Ruby Chocolate!
Well, it sure got cold again. I led an Ice Cream Tour this afternoon - two of the gelaterias were still crowded despite the icy wind! 1. On Monday I didn't go to Gunpowder as planned, but to Kricket and had fabulous bhel puri and an excellent butternut squash curry.

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 22nd April - San Francisco
I'm back in London - hence this is coming Monday morning instead of Sunday evening. As expected, I didn't get to eat at half of the places on my list and was sad to miss some bakeries and chocolate shops, but here are the best of what I did try this week (it wasn't the burrito):

5 Most Interesting Foods - Sunday 14th April 2019 - London and San Francisco

Top 5 Foods - Sunday 8th April 2018
I spent yesterday (and the three days before that) tasting chocolate bars for the Academy of Chocolate. Top 5 Foods - Sunday 1st April 2018
The Easter long weekend has thrown me off! Here I am, a day late, sorry. 🙈 I hope you had some delicious chocolate. Somehow my Easter egg consumption this year was only the mini eggs on some Ottolenghi cakes my mother-in-law made. The cakes were delicious. WEEK 4 ending Sunday 1st April 2018 1. Top 5 Foods - Sunday 11th March 2018
I taste so many delicious things I wanted to keep track of the best I was tasting for my own records and to share with other food lovers.‍ Here goes...‍‍ 1. Sugo and aubergine on sourdough by Strazzanti at Seventeen 0 Seven – this one was technically last Sunday, but as this is the first email and it was so delicious, I want you to know about it. Sugo is a slow-cooked tomato sauce that was the base for the baked egg dishes. Both the “Nina” and the “Sophia” that I tried were gorgeous (though I had mine without the eggs!). Emilia is a friend and she’ll be cooking there every weekend until the end of August.

Someone replied to my last email and said I'd have trouble choosing five things if I was spending any of the week in San Francisco. They were right! I've eaten so much excellent patisserie here that it dominates the list. Along with a fabulous dessert on Tuesday in London.

Top 5 Foods - Sunday 8th April 2018
I spent yesterday (and the three days before that) tasting chocolate bars for the Academy of Chocolate. I've spent today doing the same, except I'm just eating them on my own whilst I have been trying to pack things away before my house becomes full of dust when the builders arrive and getting washing done ahead of my trip to San Francisco this week! 😀

If you follow me on Instagram you'll know the most dramatic thing I ate this week was ...

Top 5 Foods - Sunday 18th March 2018
It's still snowing gently outside, as it was yesterday whilst I sipped hot chocolate for the Academy of Chocolate Awards at Kingsway College near Victoria. Perfect weather for it. Today felt strange without at least one hot chocolate. I made two. 😀 There were so many contenders for a top 5 this week! Here are the most interesting/delicious:
